Cross hair giving me troubles

First my CH was holding a steady red color and beeping 3 times and did a little research and found I needed a wired controller. So I went to Wal-Mart after 2 hours of going to different Wal-Mart's I finally found a Wal-Mart with a wired 360 controller and came home hooked it up. It has a constant blue like when the Xbox is powered off but when I power it on it goes to red, green, blue cycling light. I really need help asap. I would appreciate it a lot.
